People have asked about all the changing color schemes, and it’s really just me tossing out possibilities. So far I’m still pretty partial to green-haired A, though the red B from the recent illustration looks pretty neat to me.

Ultimately it may be nice to give the players multiple color schemes to choose from. there can also be items that’d unlock color schemes based on other well-known princesses/vampire queens/etc. Kinda similar to what Skullgirls is doing. Actually, exactly the same as what they’re doing. Well, anyway…

Actual names for the princesses are something I’ll try to settle on as well. I thought about leaving them completely up to the player. But that kind of thing is more appropriate for games where the heroes are complete blank slates like the first Final Fantasy… not to mention that if the game ends up having voice acting in it, it’d make things awkward.

I admit I’m already feelin’ rather attached to just calling them A & B and I’d seriously consider leaving them this way had this exact same thing not happened to an anime from 25 years ago. Soooo, they’ll get names. Princess Apple and Princess Banana.

Okay, better names than that.

more sketchbook stuff

A question I have received often is “with the princesses gone, who will be running the kingdoms?”

A fair question. Indeed when I first thought up the game I thought about having the princesses being on their own, with no real explanation to how their kingdoms work exactly. But then I thought about how I’d rather not have an elaborate backstory explained (within the game, anyway), but it’d be nice to have a group of people who accompany the princesses, as a means to provide hints about their past, as well as to have people around to help them out when they return to their castles (which serve as the “hub” locations).

And so, we have the Regents!

This is by no means final, but I currently relish the idea of A being surrounded by old bald dudes, while B is accompanied by a bunch of burly beer-swilling guys. In both cases, the kind of environment that’s basically good to them, but they would look forward to get away from.
